To ensure safe production at ultra-depth, AngloGold Ashanti’s Mponeng mine has continuously looked to improve the mine design and mining methods. Currently the world’s deepest mine, Mponeng is located 76 km south west of Johannesburg (See Figure 1) with mining taking place at a depth of 3550 m below surface. Figure 1.
